Forms of Violence

Violence against women is a form of exercising power; it consolidates unequal power relations and comes in many guises. It can manifest itself as physical or psychological abuse and humiliation, as economic, social or sexualised violence. On the following pages, you can learn more about the different forms in which violence against women appears.

For FHK the term women also includes trans women. At the same time, we are aware that there is a need to make up for major deficits when it comes to approaching and supporting trans women with experiences of violence. For more information on the topic of trans women in women’s shelters, please refer to the page LGBTI.
