Women with Migration background Women in Germany are a very heterogeneous group: Many were born here, others came to the country as children or adults. Some have limited German skills, while others speak the language fluently. Women with a migration background live in various social and family situations, income levels, and living environments. Their legal residency status can also vary considerably. Like all population groups, they are also affected by gender-based violence in the family or in public spaces.
However, migrant women with insecure residence status and refugee women have limited access to the support system and are often not adequately protected from violence. The legal and structural framework contributes to making women with a migrant background particularly vulnerable in relation to gender-based violence and human rights violations.
Women's shelter coordination is therefore committed to ensuring that all women with a migration background and their children in Germany who are victims of violence receive the necessary protection from violence and needs-based assistance to overcome the violence.
The different life situations and the legal framework (such as the Marriage period) for women with a migrant background must be taken into account when providing protection and assistance in cases of violence.
