Violence against women is not a marginal phenomenon; it shapes the everyday lives of many women in Germany and around the world. It often occurs in secret, within families, relationships, or close social circles.

How does this violence manifest itself in concrete terms? Who is particularly affected by it? And how does the violence affect the lives of women and the development of their children?

On the following pages you will find information on the various forms of violence against women, on groups that are affected by violence and Discrimination affected, as well as the consequences of violence against women. National and regional assistance, protection, and counseling services are presented. In addition, the Women's Shelter Coordination Center critically examines the shortcomings of the assistance system and formulates demands on politicians and other social actors.

The information on these pages is intended for victims of violence, as well as their families, friends, and acquaintances. It is also aimed at professionals, staff at counseling centers and women's shelters, as well as students and other interested parties.
