In 2024, approximately 13.700 women and 15.300 children sought protection in women's shelters. This is the projection from the current women's shelter statistics compiled by FHK. This year's statistics are based on data on 6.477 women and 7.224 children from a total of 189 of the approximately 400 women's shelters in Germany.
Two-thirds of those affected cannot find a women's shelter nearby. They have to travel to another city or district. Furthermore, almost one in four victims of violence still has to pay for their stay in the women's shelter themselves.

Since 2016, the FHK women's shelter statistics have been able to reflect case-specific services provided by women's shelter staff, such as support, mediation, and counseling in their work with a specific resident. Among other things, the surveys include whether residents contribute to the costs of their stay at the shelter.
