Disability arises from the interaction between people with impairments and attitudinal and environmental barriers that prevent them from fully, effectively and equally participating in society.

In contrast to transgender and trans* women, cisgender refers to people whose gender identity is consistent with the sex assigned at birth or has never been questioned.

Structural discrimination refers to seemingly neutral regulations or criteria that disadvantage individuals or social groups.

For example, if support services are aimed exclusively at heterosexual people and do not include lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender or intersex people, this is an example of structural exclusion of LGBTI people.

The duration of marriage is the minimum length of time the married couple must have cohabited in Germany before they are entitled to an independent residence permit. This makes women particularly dependent on their partners.

Significant psychological or physical danger to a child or young person under German family law and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

Gender / social sex: Socially shaped roles, behaviors, activities and characteristics that a particular society considers appropriate for women and men.

Council of Europe definition, 2011: Violence directed against a woman because she is a woman or which disproportionately affects women.

The Protection Against Violence Act (Act for Civil Protection against Acts of Violence and Stalking, abbreviated to GewSchG) provides the legal basis for protective orders issued by civil courts. These include, in particular, prohibitions against contact, proximity, and harassment in cases of intentional and unlawful injury to a person's body, health, or freedom, including threats of such injury.

Intersex refers to people who are born with a body that does not conform to typical gender standards and norms for men and women. Intersex can also be a gender identity. Intersex people can also identify as men, women, or other genders.

Child law encompasses the regulations that affect the child and their relationship with their family, such as custody and access rights, child support law, and the related law of court proceedings.

The essential provisions are contained in the German Civil Code (BGB) and, with regard to court proceedings, primarily in the Act on Proceedings in Family Matters and in Matters of Voluntary Jurisdiction (FamFG).

Recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of power or a position of vulnerability, or the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation includes, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or compulsory servitude, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude, or the removal of bodily organs.

Definition of the United Nations in the Additional Protocol to the Palermo Convention

Definition: "A person has a migration background if they or at least one parent was not born with German citizenship."

The definition includes the following persons:

1. immigrant and non-immigrant foreigners;
2. immigrants and non-immigrant naturalised citizens;
3. (late) repatriates;
4. descendants of the three aforementioned groups born with German citizenship.

A protected area in which everyone expects safety, security and trust.

As trans* woman refers to a woman whose gender identity is female but who was assigned male at birth.

The umbrella term "trans*" refers to people who do not identify with the gender assigned to them at birth. Transgender people include, for example, trans* women (women assigned "male" at birth), trans* men (men assigned "female" at birth), and also people who do not wish to be identified with a gender identity. The asterisk marks space for different identities, such as trans*identity or non-binary.
