Project: Temporary Home – Children and Young People in Women's Shelters. Development of a Modular Support Program

Project period: October 2021 to December 2023

With the “Temporary Home” project, the Women’s Shelter Coordination was able to focus on children and young people in women’s shelters as an independent target group.

A particular focus of the project was the psychosocial care of children and adolescents in women's shelters. Over a two-year project period, FHK collected best-practice examples and developed ideas and recommendations for professional practice.

project flow

The starting point was a review of research and professional practice. FHK pooled, evaluated, and further developed the wealth of existing experience within the framework of the project. In many locations, independent concepts and project modules for dealing with children and adolescents in women's shelters were also tested and established. The findings from this country- and provider-specific work were incorporated into the project.

project results

In the “Temporary Home” project, FHK was able to implement the following measures:

  1. Micro-funding for project work in the children and youth sector
  2. Documentation of best practice approaches in a digital project blog
  3. Development of quality recommendations and minimum requirements for work with children and adolescents in women's shelters, including development of handouts and working materials
  4. Conducting digital event series on skilled workers' qualification; establishing and expanding cooperation; exchanging knowledge and practical experience

Here you will find practical materials from the “Temporary Home” project and on the topic of children in women’s shelters.

Financing

The “Temporary Home” project was supported by IKEA Germany.
