Scientific study "Supporting women's shelters on the path to inclusion" published

The study was conducted as part of the project "Inclusive Assistance System – Implementing the Istanbul Convention, Identifying Needs for Action" between November 2023 and April 2024 by the Tübingen Institute for Gender and Diversity-Conscious Social Research and Practice (tifs) on behalf of the Women's Shelter Coordination (FHK).

The results of this study are based on six group interviews with professionals from women's shelter teams located in various regions of Germany. The aim is to gain insights into inclusive processes in women's shelters through good practice examples and to provide suggestions for further work.

Network map and network poster for organizational development

Effective networks are the result of careful consideration of which actors in the women's shelter community are important for supporting women affected by violence and their children. The newly published working material from Women's Shelter Coordination supports staff in women's shelters in identifying cooperation partners and recording expectations for the collaboration. A fold-out poster on the back provides sufficient space to enter the contact details of cooperation partners in the respective region.

Qualitative survey: Voices of professionals on inclusive violence protection

With this special qualitative analysis, FHK compiles assessments from professional practice on inclusion in violence protection.

The special qualitative analysis by FHK collects the opinions of professionals on the status of inclusive violence protection. The aim of the survey was to supplement the results of the nationwide Women's shelter statistics to complement current expert assessments and thus create a foundation for further development toward more inclusive women's shelters. The focus is on a human rights-based understanding of inclusion that promotes the full participation of all women and addresses institutional barriers.

Ten qualitative interviews were conducted with professionals from various violence protection facilities, including both urban and rural centers of various sizes, between June and August 2022. The interviewees emphasized that women who experience multiple discrimination, in particular, continue to face many barriers to access.

Due to the limited number of interviews, the survey can only shed light on selected aspects of barriers and needs
