Project: Networking and professional support for violence protection for refugee women and LGBTI people

Project period: 2016 to 2017

Since summer 2016, over one hundred projects nationwide have been dedicated to protecting women refugees from violence and empowering them and other groups in particular need of protection. The projects were implemented in facilities run by welfare organizations (Workers' Welfare Association, Caritas, Diakonie, German Red Cross, and the Joint and Central Welfare Office of Jews in Germany), funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration.

FHK sponsored a project to network and provide expert support for these projects. A milestone in the project was the expert event on September 23, 2016, on the topic of "Protecting Refugees from Gender-Based Violence." Further information about the event can be found here.

On 19 and 20 September 2017, another specialist event took place entitled “Empowerment is… realities and perspectives in social work with refugees” in Berlin. You can download the documentation here.

From the exchange and support of over one hundred projects, FHK gathered experience, pooled it, and shared it with interested parties from the professional community and practitioners. At the same time, FHK provided support to institutions, and especially to the projects, with its expertise.

In September 2017, FHK presented the results of a Query of projects on empowerment and protection from violence published, which is still available for download.
