Digital violence

Project “Dealing with digital violence in women’s shelters”

The project “Dealing with Digital Violence in Women’s Shelters” supports women’s shelter staff in implementing the protection concept against digital violence already developed in a preliminary project in their women’s shelters.

Media literacy and awareness-raising about protection against digital violence are essential for implementing these protective measures – both among staff and among adult residents and their children. Therefore, this project aims to convey the contents of the protection concept to women's shelter staff in such a way that they can implement this knowledge sustainably in their facilities. Various measures are being developed for this purpose.

project flow

FHK will offer online training on the contents of the protection concept for women's shelter staff, who can then support their colleagues as certified multipliers.

Furthermore, media education materials are being developed for young residents to raise awareness of protection against digital violence in women's shelters in a target group-specific manner.

In addition, public relations work focusing on media education in the context of women's shelters will strengthen the professional community in order to better support children and young people as victims. Finally, a pilot project for telephone counseling by IT experts will be piloted, providing support to women's shelter staff with questions about technical protective measures in cases of digital violence.

Background to the protection concept

Women’s shelter coordination has in a preliminary project A comprehensive protection plan for women's shelters to protect against digital violence has been developed and provided to support women's shelter staff in dealing with cases of digital violence. Without protective measures, there is a risk that victims will continue to be exposed to digital violence even in the women's shelter. This endangers both the victims themselves and the secret location of the women's shelter, and thus all residents living there. The protection plan provides women's shelter staff with information, practical examples, and recommendations for technical, psychosocial, media education, and legal advice in cases of digital violence.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
