It's been just over a month since the idea was born at the German government's hackathon under the motto #WirVsVirus. Now the project is online:
The website https://www.sichere-zuflucht.de/ connects holiday apartments, rental apartments, and flats that are currently vacant due to the Covid-19 pandemic with women's shelters that are experiencing increased demand for space during the crisis. The site does not charge any fees for its services.
Whether there's an urgent need for quarantine space or preparation for increased demand as lockdown restrictions ease, women's shelters and shelter facilities can register and submit a non-binding request via the website. Providers also have the opportunity to register vacant living spaces via the website. If existing offers meet a shelter's search criteria, the facility can view and contact them.
That's how it works
1. Women's shelters can register without obligation at https://www.sichere-zuflucht.de/frauenhaeuser.
2. The women's shelter will then be verified. Only after verification will the portal be accessible.
3. The portal provides an overview of available accommodations. You can filter these according to your needs.
4. If an accommodation meets your criteria, you can contact the accommodation provider without obligation.
A growing project
The Safe Refuge project not only relies on the active participation of women's shelters and housing providers. It is also a volunteer-developed project in its initial phase that relies on feedback for improvement. Therefore, FHK also participated in the development of the website in an advisory capacity.
