Women's Shelter Coordination (FHK) has always been committed to protecting and supporting people affected by gender-based violence. Our work is based on the fundamental values of our democracy and is committed to human rights. After careful consideration, we have decided to permanently cease our activities on the X platform, formerly Twitter.
Under Elon Musk's leadership, X has evolved into a platform that tolerates—and in some cases even amplifies—harmful narratives that contradict our values of respect, inclusion, and safety. The increasing prevalence of group-targeted misanthropy, hate speech, and disinformation undermines the safe spaces we strive to create for those affected. Of particular concern is the decline in moderation and the deliberate tolerance of extremist content. These developments contradict FHK's values.
The decision was not easy for us, as social media platforms are important tools for us to reach and network stakeholders in professional practice, promote exchange and support our work against gender-based violence to make it visible at the political and structural level. Nevertheless, we cannot responsibly remain active on a platform whose orientation contradicts the principles of our work.
We remain active on other social media channels, but are also critically monitoring current developments there. We thank all our supporters here and invite you to follow us on the other platforms! Feel free to follow us on BlueSky, Instagram and Facebook.
We are committed to a non-violent society – online and offline.
