EU project on older women affected by violence – interim results

The EU project WHOSEVFA – “Working with health and care facilities to support older women affected by violence” (2017-2018) presents initial results and experiences in an interim report.
The project, funded by the European Commission under the Daphne program, aims to identify and close barriers and gaps in the care and health systems and victim protection services. This will provide more effective and needs-based support to older women affected by violence. The WHOSEVFA project is being implemented in six partner countries: Austria, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.

The central WHOSEFVA recommendation is the legal inclusion of gender-based violence in the training of health and care professionals; this takes up the recommendation of the Istanbul Convention in Article 15.

The plan is to create a training manual on violence against older people, with special consideration of the needs and concerns of older women, and to publish it on the WHOSEFVA project website starting in summer 2018.
